The CHESS home will be built on a single family urban residential lot and tied to the electrical grid of the City of Red Deer. The design considers the entire home as an integrated system. It is concerned with how it will influence and interact with the surrounding environment; account for the source of raw materials and the impacts of manufacturing, and incorporate a sense of responsibility for the full life cycle of the finished home. The CHESS home will produce as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis.
Project Features
Essentially a starter home, it is strategically designed to evolve with the homeowner's short- and long-term needs. An optional second floor can be developed to accommodate a growing family. Later in life, the main floor can easily be adapted to be barrier-free.
